Summary: Blake leans back, ever so slightly. Her eyes shut fast, and her fingertips curl against Leighton's cheek. "I don't -" Blake opens her eyes, and Leighton sees the same feelings in them, the same fear. Suddenly, she understands why Blake hasn't been looking at her these past few days. "I don't think it's wise for us to be friends."
Notes: This is a story that's loosely based on the plot of Twilight. Except there aren't any vampires, and both of them are chicks, and it's set in the Eastern US in the late 19th century, and also I changed a bunch of the story elements. So, not really like Twilight at all. Anyway, annaalamode was wonderful about helping me set a time period, and jengrrrl and fivewhatfive are fantastic people who helped me so, so much. The title is stolen from a Pablo Neruda poem (by the same name) that is miles better than this.
